Greifswald is a modern university and science location – and one of the youngest cities in East Germany. Thanks to the 12,000 students attending one of the oldest universities in Germany, the city with a total of 60,000 inhabitants, ensures a lively, intellectual and exuberant atmosphere.

The Hanseatic City of Greifswald is situated in the state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The town flanks the Baltic Sea and is crossed by a small river (Ryck). It is also located near Germanys two largest inslands, Rügen and Usedom, and it is close to three national parks.

The innovative spirit also benefits approximately 70 scientific facilities, research institutions and companies – for example our Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology and the Max Planck Ancillary Institute for Plasma Physics.

The outstanding medical infrastructure, the numerous educational offerings, the innovative concepts for development of the family-friendly city, Greifswald, are indicators of the attraction of the city as a place to live and work.
